SERVICES AND TECHNIQUES

BWC
Massage therapy is effective at relieving pain and restoring function so injured workers can return to work. Requests for massage therapy services through workers’ compensation benefits usually must come from a physician referral. This request can be facilitated by a case worker.

Massage services must be performed by therapists who have been approved by the OBWC.

Equine Massage
Therapeutic massage for both rider and horse provides significant relief, stimulates healing, enhances performance and promotes stress reduction. Effective for pleasure riding, competition, and injury recovery.

Hot Stone Massage
Smooth, flat, basalt rocks are heated in a water bath. Your therapist then places them at key points on your body, such as your hands and back, and holds others in her hand to work the muscles. The heat warms and relaxes the muscles, which allows the therapist to apply deeper pressure, if desired. The warmth of the hot stones improves circulation and calms the nervous system.

Kinesio Taping®

Kinesio Tape is brightly colored sports tape you’ve been seeing on celebrity athletes.  The Kinesio Taping Method is designed to facilitate the body’s natural healing process while allowing support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the body’s range of motion.  The flexible tape acts as further soft tissue manipulation extending the benefits of manual massage therapy. Not just for sports, Kinesio® Taping successfully treats a variety of medical conditions including pain, edema and for Preventive Maintenance. Applying the tape in the correct direction with the right amount of pressure is essential to its effectiveness.

Relaxation Massage
Relaxation massage is a gentle, classic style that uses smooth, slow, gliding strokes.  There is less emphasis on working out serious adhesions or knots in the muscle tissue. This type of massage has been shown to decrease cortisol in the body by allowing the body to enter a relaxing rest-and-recovery mode, an effect that lingers long after the massage is over. In fact, massage triggers a host of brain chemistry responses that can result in lasting feelings of relaxation, lowered stress, strengthened immune system and improved mood. It can be done effectively with light, moderate, or heavy pressure, according to your preference.

Therapeutic Massage
Especially helpful for chronically tight areas such as stiff necks, low back stiffness, and sore shoulders, this therapy focuses on realigning tight layers of muscles and connective tissue and breaking down adhesions (bands of painful, rigid tissue) to restore movement and relieve pain.  This therapy can be done with forceful pressure or with gentle movements.  Discuss your preferences with your therapist.
